Principal Mrs. Munguia
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I hope that you had a well-rested and enjoyable summer. I know just how hard all of our staff, students and families worked last year and I hope that this time off has served to help everyone rest and re-energize, so that we are ready to begin the work for the new school year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Northam families and community members for their support during the 2015-16 school year. By everyone working together, we accomplished many initiatives and met our goals for the year. Both teachers and students did a phenomenal job learning and applying the common core state standards, implementing rigorous instructional shifts and enhancing content and communication skills that will prepare them for future learning.
Once again, our school wide discipline continues to be the best in the Rowland district with ZERO suspensions. This means that our students continue to make good choices as they learn and grow both academically and socially. Students are implementing “The Way of Knight,” they are Responsible, Respectful and Ready to Learn. Further, our Northam soccer team earned 1st place for the second year in a row. Thank you to our PTA and parents who came out and cheered for our knights. This 2015-16 school year, Northam students participated in the Los Angeles County Math and Science competitions where they earned the SILVER medal at each competition. I am extremely proud of all students and staff.
As we continue to excel in academics, Northam School’s focus is to prepare our students for college/university and a career. It is important to prepare our students at an early age so by the time they get to high school, they are academically prepared to acquire the classes needed. As we promote a college bound education, every classroom will adopt a college this year. Your child’s teacher will contact you in regards to the college they have selected. Please join us by participating in our college bound activities, like wearing a college shirt on Mondays, for example.
Northam Elementary School is an educational institution that fosters a warm, innovative and dynamic learning environment with a rigorous curriculum. For this 2016-17 school year, we will continue to raise student achievement as we do every year. I am truly looking forward to working with a dedicated and talented school team, students and with our parent community as we begin the school year. Let’s Go Knights!
