Goals
As a learner your child will be expected to accomplish many academic goals in second grade. Along with these academic goals I will be setting personal goals related to each learner. I will strive to see that each student:
By the end of second grade, your child should be able to:
Math
Language Arts
- Respects him/herself as well as others
- Receives classroom environment conducive to learning
- Develops a sense of purpose for learning
- Feels successful
By the end of second grade, your child should be able to:
Math
- Memorize addition and subtraction facts to 20
- Regroup number problems
- Tell time to 15 minutes
- Money to $10.00
- Measurement of objects
- Fractions: 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/8, 3/4
- Place value to 1000
- Solve word problems
- Skip count (this supports multiplication)
Language Arts
- Read short chapter books
- Use phonics for reading and writing
- Spell high frequency words
- Write a five sentence paragraph which is focuses on a topic and uses correct punctuation.
- Work cooperatively in a group
- Be an independent learner and worker
