La Importancia de la Comprensión de la lectura
Su hijo/a ya sabe leer. ¡Qué bueno!
Eso es lo que se espera de cada alumno en el tercer grado. Si embargo el saber los sonidos y pronunciar las palabras correctamente o inclusive leer con cierta fluidez, no significa que su hijo/a esté comprendiendo el contenido de lo que lee. Cuando su hijo/a lea en la casa, hágale preguntas acerca de lo que está leyendo. Preguntele sobre la trama, los personajes, la secuencia de la historia, el problema y la solución. Inclusive vaya mas alla y haga que su hijo/a desarrolle las destrezas de inferir y predecir. Preguntele lo que el/ella cree que pasaría mas adelante en la historia, ¿Que hubiera podido suceder si las circumstancias fueran diferentes? ¿Se relaciona esa historia a su vida? Preguntele si en la historia hay alguna enseñanza, moraleja o lección importante. Aproveche y utilize los posibles mensajes para reforzar valores y hábitos positivos. Preguntele y aprenda usted también.

Your child has learned to read. Yet, knowing sounds, enunciating words correctly, even reading with fluency does not mean that your child understands content. When your child reads at home, please ask him/her specific questions. Ask, what is the story he /she is reading about. Ask about characters, plot and conflicts and their possible solutions. Ask about the main idea and encourage your child to give a summary of the sequence of events. Inquire about the highlights of the story and ask your child to be specific about the best aspects of the narrative and why.
Ask your child to find the author’s message and why the story is important. Ask your child to connect the story to his/her life. Review the text together and consider the lesson or the author’s message. Take this reading and learning time to reinforce values and good habits.
Asking your child questions makes reading a wholesome learning experience.
